What is CAN-U?

Cumberland Adult Network for Upgrading (CAN-U) is a non-profit organization dedicated to helping adults in Cumberland County improve their literacy, numeracy and technology skills. Our mandate is to work with adults 18 years of age and older who do not have a high school diploma and have been out of school for at least one year. The majority of our funding comes from the Nova Scotia Department of Labour and Advanced Education.

Individualized Learning Plans

Learners come to CAN-U for many reasons. Success will look different for every learner. That's why each learner is paired with an instructor to build a customized Learning Plan. You will meet with your instructor often to talk about your program and celebrate your progress in reaching your goals.

CAN-U's goal is to help you reach your goal!

A Different Approach to Learning

There are as many different ways of learning as there are learners:

- Reading    - Writing    - Books    - Online   - Video

- Discussion  - Hands-on  - Independent   - Group

At CAN-U, we recognize that learners have different learning styles, knowledge, and experiences.

Pursue your learning goals in whatever way works best for your learning style.

Testimonials

I have learned to have more confidence in myself and to know that if I just apply myself, ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE.

I learned so much about myself, inside and out.

I am moving forward with an open mind -

I WILL SUCCEED!

Thank you for saving my life!

I was able to realize the skills I came in with and gain the skills I needed for success.

Had I not had the opportunity to attend the program, I don't think I would be where I am today.

I've learned that I can do anything I put my mind to.

Hard work always pays off.

JUST DO IT - You won't regret it!

I grew as a person, learned, and made new friends while I was there.

Everyone was awesome and I had a blast!

GAP/TECS has offered me a chance to be who I actually am without anyone judging me, to be appreciated, to have time to think, to receive positive feedback, and to get back on track with my life.
